Melie Purdon

 
Melie discovered yoga as part of her acting training when she moved from Paris to New York City in 2008. It's the link between movement and breath that drew her to come back to the mat between rehearsals and later throughout both pregnancy and postpartum. When not attending yoga classes or teaching them, you can find Melie practicing yoga off the mat while playground hopping all over Hoboken and Jersey City with her two daughters and her husband. Melie earned her RYT-500 advanced training at the Hudson Yoga Project, under the brilliant, passionate and oh so inspiring Patrick Franco Jr, Anna Greenberg, Julie Pasqual and Erica Arcé. Continuing her education for prenatal yoga under Kimberleigh Weiss-Lewis. Melie's classes are playful , carefully sequenced and always full of love, light , good tunes and geeky alignment cues.

  • Sattva Flow Level 1-2
  • Come flow through fluid Vinyasa Flow sequences of traditional sun salutations and standing postures, linking breath with movement to build strength and endurance, finding balance and flexibility. In Sanskrit vinyasa means “to place in a special way,” and that informs the graceful “dance” that is a dynamic vinyasa sequence. This class is for those students who have working knowledge of yoga postures and are ready for an introduction to more challenging postures and creative sequencing.

    Class is 1 Hour
    Open to all, Level 1 experience suggested.


  • Prenatal Yoga
  •  
    Meet other future mamas and indulge in the benefits of Sattva's prenatal yoga. Our gently flowing practice will help you to improve circulation, ease digestion, maintain a limber spine, strengthen your uterus and pelvic muscles, and simply make you more at ease throughout your pregnancy. We take plenty of time to share and address common challenges we face over the prenatal journey including nausea, varicose veins, swelling, and back pain.

    Through yoga, breath work, meditation, and discussion you will develop confidence and nurture your innate wisdom to connect with your baby and enjoy the magical process of pregnancy and birth. It is our intention to make you feel well cared for, more calm, comfortable and confident with every class. Our prenatal classes are for women at all stages of pregnancy, and postnatal moms are also welcome. No previous yoga experience necessary.

    Class is 1 Hour.


  • Sattva Flow Level 2

This class is for those students who enjoy a faster paced flow and are ready for an introduction to more challenging postures and creative sequencing.
     
    Class is 1 Hour
    Open to all, not suggested for brand new Beginners.

  • Sattva Foundation; 4 Week Beginners Series
  • New to yoga and not sure where to start? This 4 part weekly series teaches new beginner level students yoga fundamentals and provides the guidance they need to develop a safe and beneficial yoga practice and feel comfortable in open level yoga classes. In this series students will receive individual attention from the same teacher each week, learning basic hatha yoga postures, alignment and breathing techniques and will become familiarized with how a yoga class is sequenced. Students will also receive an introduction to yoga philosophy and meditation.

    Upon completion of the series,participants receive 1 full month of unlimited yoga classes at Sattva to practice what you have learned.

    Cost $99 for series plus 1 month of classes
    Pre-registration is required.


  • Chakra Flow Level 1-2
  •  
    Experience your practice from a deeper level during this vinyasa flow practice designed to invigorate, balance and open the energy flow throughout the entire body. There are 7 energy centers in the subtle and physical bodies, known as the chakras. When the chakras are aligned, it allows for greater physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental balance.  We will explore these energy centers  through movement,mantra, pranayama, and meditation to allow for Sattvic energy flow throughout the body.

    Class is 75 minutes
    Open to all, Level 1 experience suggested. 

     


  • Candlelight Yin with Yoga Nidra
  •  Yin Yoga is a deep, meditative and often profound practice. Infused in the longer, more passive holds , Yin  involves surrendering into poses and exploring them for longer periods of time in order to let go of tensions stored in the body and to calm the nervous system. Practicing this way helps to target deeper connective tissues especially around the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Candlelight Yin Yoga is a peaceful way to end your day This practice will be lit entirely by candlelight helping us to balance our emotions, still our minds and open the deep connective tissues in the body using various yin asanas.
     
    Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation found in savasana to promote total relaxation. It is a powerful practice where the body and mind are liberated from their tensions and anxiety. One learns how to put the body into sleep while the mind remains fully awake. The brain wave drops into the theta state where deep levels of healing takes place on the emotional, mental, and physical planes.
     
    Class is 75 minutes, 1 hour Yin and 15 minutes Yoga Nidra.
